Professor Madhava Prasad is most known for his work on Indian and Hindi Cinema. He has authored several books and published in many national and international journals. His current research is in the broad field of India studies, with particular reference to the language question. His interests are in the history of the modernisation of Indian vernaculars, the 'idea of India' as framed by the question of language(s), structural bilingualism and its consequences for Indian modernity/democracy, the pathologies of subjectivisation traceable to the linguistic (dis)order, the disarray in education. His latest book cine-politics deals with films stars and politics in South India.
