[WhatsUpUoH] [Sawaaljawaab] Announcing the next Sawaal-Jawaab: Sat Dec 13 at 2 pm

Dear Principal,

This is to encourage you to announce the following public lecture which is
scheduled this Saturday. The series is titled Sawaal-Jawaab:
Conversations on Science. There is a slight change in format this time:
the usual talk by the speaker is replaced by a conversation between two
scientists. We will demonstrate experiments that highlight the unusual and
ill-understood properties of granular materials, and showcase the thought
and discussion that goes into analysing them and elucidating the science
behind the observed phenomena. No prior knowledge or expertise is
required.

Our guest scientist this time is Prof. Shankar Ghosh of the Tata Institute
of Fundamental Research (TIFR) Mumbai in conversation with Shubha Tewari
of TIFR Hyderabad. An experimental physicist working on soft matter,
Shankar has discovered beautiful phenomena in materials ranging from
colloids to carbon nanotubes.

Talk Title: Learning new physics, one grain at a time
Date: Saturday Dec. 13, 2014
Time: 2:00 pm
Venue: Lamakaan
off Road No. 1, Banjara Hills, near GVK One Mall
http://www.lamakaan.com/events/1842

Abstract of talk: Sand, and other materials made of large grains,
challenge our basic notions of what it means to be a solid, liquid, or
gas. We present demonstrations, observations, and arguments that show
that everyday phenomena can shed new light on fundamental issues in
physics and materials science.

We hope to see you there! A poster of the event is attached. For further
