[WhatsUpUoH] Protest Screening

Inviting everyone to a protest screening outside the Ladies Hostel Complex on January 31, Friday, 9pm. We will be screening Fire by Deepa Mehta, which was initially scheduled to be screened inside the ladies hostel complex mess as a part of Gender Reels film festival. A discussion will follow.

The administration decided to withdraw permission for the mess screenings on the last day. This screening protests against the administration's conservative attitude. It is exactly such mindsets that we wanted to engage with through the mess screenings.

Come, show your support. Let us fight this segregation.

[WhatsUpUoH] INDIAN STUDENTS RECRUITMENT PROGRAM, NATIONAL TSING HUA UNIVERSITY -Reg

Dear All,

PLEASE TAKE A MOMENT TO WATCH A SHORT VIDEO ENTITLED "INDIAN STUDENTS
RECRUITMENT PROGRAM, NATIONAL TSING HUA UNIVERSITY."

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-OFDYoxSEZQ

For the past decade, National Tsing Hua University without fanfare
initiated an interaction with India.

It began with a few graduate students enrolling in the University,
mostly in the chemistry department. In ten years, that interaction has
blossomed. Today, NTHU has close relationship with ten top Indian
universities, a dual-PhD program with one of India's best, IIT Madras,
having many young Indian students interning in the summer on campus
(and did extraordinarily well, I might add,) having over 150 Indian
graduate students and postdocs pursuing degrees and research in all
disciplines on campus (which is ¼ of all Indians pursuing education
opportunities in Taiwan,) organized the largest DIWALI festival
celebration in this part of the world and last but not least,
establishing  FOUR Taiwan education centers throughout India.

As far as recruiting Indian students to study as undergrads and grads
in NTHU, our effort to date can at best be termed as ad hoc. Today,
NTHU's administration feels that with all the above exciting
developments as underpinnings, the time has arrived for us to begin a
comprehensive strategic effort in recruiting the best of the best from
India to seek education opportunities in NTHU. For us, we consider
this is a solemn responsibilities NTHU has to shoulder as one of the
most outstanding research universities in Asia today!

One of our first efforts is to produce a video specifically targeting
Indian students, both grads and undergrads. In this video we hope that
we have provided for the viewer a comprehensive portrayal of the
intellectual ambiance of NTHU. We also want to manifest the employment
opportunities in Hsinchu, the city which NTHU is at and is
unquestionably the most successful science and technology city in this
part of Asia.

Please distribute this video to as many friends as you like.  Thanks
so much for your support.

Namastē!
