[WhatsUpUoH] Whether to be (or not to be) Charlie Hebdo: Respecting Freedoms, Resisting Violence

The Department of Communication

Sarojini Naidu School of Arts & Communication

University of Hyderabad, India

Invites you to a panel discussion

Whether to be (or not to be) Charlie Hebdo:

Respecting Freedoms, Resisting Violence

Opinions have been flying fast and furious, across social media, in the newspapers, and on television talk shows. Images of protest both violent and peaceful, caricature and contestation, anguish and anger, words that tumble over each other in the desire to defend free speech and equally vehement counterpoints that explain the violent responses and just barely stop short of justifying them…we live in confusing times, and the most reflective of us are defeated by the challenge of a nuanced, balanced response. Is such a balance even possible in the face of intolerance and its violent manifestations? What are the threads of fact and imagination that we can draw together to make sense of events such as the violent response to the cartoons in the French magazine Charlie Hebdo earlier this month, or similar events in the not-so-distant past in not-so-distant places?

Join us to explore these and related questions

[WhatsUpUoH] QUIZCAST - Radio Quiz, tomorrow at 3 p.m. @ Bol hyderabad 90.4 FM

QUIZCAST is back.... K-Circle's Radio Quiz only on Bol Hyderabad 90.4 FM

Join K-Circle in the Bol Hyderabad 90.4 FM studio for the next edition of QuizCast, K-Circle's exclusive quiz for radio.

When and Where:
Wednesday, January 21, 2015 at 3:00pm in the Bol Hyderabad 90.4 FM studio, Sarojini Naidu School of University of Hyderabad campus. Make sure you arrive at the studio by 2:45pm to allow for team formation and introductions before the quiz starts at 3:00pm sharp.
It will be a team quiz.

Quizmaster: Sagnik Chakraborty is from Calcutta, India, where he did a B.A. Major in English Literature and also studied German from Goethe Institut Max Mueller Bhavan, Calcutta. He has worked in the past with Accenture, Amazon, Siemens Macmillan and other MNC's as German specialist. Currently, he lives and works in Hyderabad as German translator, teacher and columnist for online magazines.

Apart from quizzing, music is Sagnik's hobby, so he will try to add a novel touch to the quiz by singing and performing some of the audio questions; the contestants will be asked to identify the composer, the language, or maybe the raga (with other hints dropped in), etc.

We are quite excited at this new aspect to the radio quiz and are hoping to make an impact.
