You are cordially invited to a lecture by Prof. Michael Fisher on "Gender, Race, and Class in Early Colonial India and Britain" jointly organised by the Department of English and the Centre for Women's Studies. The lecture will be at 2 pm on Wednesday 9th October 2013 at the Lecture Hall, School of Humanities.
MICHAEL H. FISHER is a Professor at the Department of History, Oberlin College, Ohio, U.S.A. Currently, he is a Visiting Professor at the Centre for Historical Studies, and a Fellow at the Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Advanced Study, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. He has extensively presented and published research papers and book reviews. He has many awards and honours to his credit. His major works include Migration: A World History a volume in The New Oxford World History series (December 2013), The Inordinately Strange Life of Dyce Sombre: Victorian Anglo Indian M.P. and Chancery 'Lunatic' (2013), Across the Three Seas: Travellers Tales from Mughal India (2007), A South Asian History of Britain: Four Centuries of Peoples from the Indian Subcontinent (co-authored with Shompa Lahiri and Shinder Thandi; 2007), Counterflows to Colonialism: Indian Travellers and Settlers in Britain, 1600-1857 (2004), The Travels of Dean Mahomet: An Eighteenth Century Journey through India (edited, 1997), The First Indian Author in English: Dean Mahomed (1759-1851) in India, Ireland, and England (1996), The Politics of the British Annexation of India, 1757-1857 (edited) Themes in Indian History series, (1993), Indirect Rule in India: Residents and the Residency System, 1764-1858 (1991), A Clash of Cultures: Awadh, the British, and the Mughals (1987). Currently he is working on the book The Mughal Empire (expected fall 2014).
