[WhatsUpUoH] An appeal regarding firecrackers

An Appeal

Dear friends, we celebrated Diwali on Sunday, and it all went very well. Here is a little thought to ponder upon for celebrations in future.

Our campus is home to many animals and birds. They all get frightened by loud noises and fire. Many of them are forced to fly or run away from their homes. We need not take care of them or nurture them, but we are obliged to share the space responsibly with them. Firecrackers are a lot of fun for us, but unfortunately not for them.

So here is a humble appeal. Let's go easy on the firecrackers. It's not that we shouldn't celebrate... Not at all! But, we can keep in mind our feathered and furry friends while celebrating. Here are a few tips-

  • Let us use less firecrackers that are loud. Why do we need so much sound anyway!

  • Let us gather in one or two common areas, so that the damage is minimised. Open dais near Gops, Library Junction, and South Campus junction are all ideal places – surrounded by buildings and slightly removed from forests.

  • Let us not burst firecrackers near the forests and lakes. Most of our hostels are near them.

We are lucky to have such a big, beautiful, green campus. With this privilege comes the responsibility of taking care of it.

Let us think of this the next time we celebrate! Thank you.
