Re: [WhatsUpUoH] Judicious Use/Conservation of Water

This is what I got from my friends on WhatsApp, friends who do not get these mails..

2) Tanks in LH-8 hostel tend to overflow at times

One more comment in facebook. Shows how sincere we are.

Dear Friends,

In South Campus, near to under construction faculty quarters, a bore-well is present. At present the construction company NCC is using it. Why cannot University of Hyderabad acquire this same bore-well and provide water to South Campus residents?

I request the Vice-Chancellor of University of Hyderabad to give his official public statement to clear his stand on this water crisis.

Best regards
Ajay

Case with Toilets in the G hostel (Ground Floor) and the overflow from the F&G hostel dining hall has been continuing for months now.

The overflow from the tanks goes roaring in the nights. The overflow is so bad, there is a HUGE swamp and a stream.

I have seen this happen right from July - Nov (Whole of last academic semester).

Someone wrote in FB. Can anyone please report to nearest sub station or the Chief Warden Office. Thanks

Arun B Raj The tap in the toilet and the shower head in the bathroom in men's hostel A, wing IV have leaking problems, at least they did till a few days ago when I was there. So if someone could check up on them and report it if it's still the same, that'd be great.

Dear sir,

Some of us students appreciate your effort in reaching out to the campus community regarding the water issue. I am also grateful to the university engineering department which is working overtime to make sure that our essential needs are met.

However, I would like to highlight some inconsistencies within the policy.
- In this period of scarcity, water is being used by the university to water gardens and lawns. I have witnesses this happening on the South Campus road, the Life Science building, and the Humanities building. Perhaps we should get our priorities right? Are flowering plants (not even trees) more important than water needs of people? Hostels in south campus have been hit quite bad - we get water only for about 1/2 an hour a day, and that too erratically. We are screamed at by the engineering staff when we call for information. We call for information because we are not given information in a systematic way. There are notice boards in our hostel. If we are informed of when water will be available, we will base our schedules around the that. However, now, we are made to sit around in the hostel for many hours, wondering when water will be available. I understand that the engineering staff are stressed out, but instructions like "the university does not have water, you go home" do not help us. Especially when after such an instruction we come out and see plants along the road being watered. We understand there is a shortage of water, and we are not going to crib for water when there is none. But, the water that we have can surely be distributed uniformly and sensibly.

- there is a huge leak in the water supply pipe near J hostel. It has been there for years.
- Leaks have been reported in a previous email chain, which I believe has been forwarded to you.

I hope others will pitch in with reports of leaks. Meanwhile, an earnest request to all: many leave taps turned on when they see there's no water. Please spread awareness about closing these taps, because a lot of water is getting wasted when the water supply is restored.

Dear sir, I request you to give instructions for a rational policy on water distribution and usage.

With the best of regards,
Mohan

Dear Colleagues and Students,

As you know, the State is currently reeling under severe water crisis. This is affecting us badly on campus as well. We haven't received Manjeera water for over a week and have been purchasing water for the last few days. Very reluctantly we are resorting to digging bore wells and hope that almost normal water supply will be restored in a couple of days.

It is apparent that water has become a very precious commodity. Your help and cooperation is solicited in conserving water. Please use water as sparingly as you possibly can and also ensure that people around you are also doing so.

The staff in the Engineering Section concerned with water supply is working overtime to help us. Please cooperate with them fully and also draw their attention to any leaky tap or overflowing overhead tank that you come to know of -- as soon as you discover one, please report to the nearest substation.

Looking forward to your help and cooperation in this very crucial matter,

Yours Sincerely,

Vipin Srivastava
