[WhatsUpUoH] [Sawaaljawaab] Announcing the next Sawaal-Jawaab: Sat June 28, 3 pm

Dear all,

This is to invite you to the next Sawaal-Jawaab, our monthly conversations
on science, back after a two-month hiatus. The usual format is a short 20
minute talk by our guest scientist, after which the audience is invited to
engage in an informal, free-flowing discussion with the speaker.
Interested participants of all ages are welcome. No prior knowledge or
expertise is required.

This conversation features Prof. Madhusudhan Venkadesan of the National
Centre for Biological Sciences, Bangalore, and Yale University as of
January 2015. A mechanical engineer by training, Madhu uses a combination
of measurements on human volunteers, calculations, and computer
optimisation to study how the evolved form of the human body affects the
way we move and control it.

Talk Title: How running and throwing made us human
Date: Saturday June 28, 2014
Time: 3:00 pm
Venue: Lamakaan
off Road No. 1, Banjara Hills, near GVK One Mall
http://www.lamakaan.com/events/1414

Abstract of talk: Hunting, through running over long distances and by
throwing
projectiles, played a key role in human evolution. Which aspects of the
human body make us so good at running and throwing? Using measurements on
human volunteers, simple pen and paper calculations and computer
optimization, we try to understand how hunting may have shaped several
aspects of the current form of the human body.
