ISSUE IV; January, 2014; Fiction of the 21^st Century

The genre of fiction, as novel, novella and short story, reflect historical and socio-economical condition of a particular society or culture and the structure of a community. As a form of narrative it records multifaceted realities of social and individual psychology. It also documents the evolution of different forms of expression. The form of Fiction has undergone remarkable mutations through the centuries of its evolution. The forthcoming issue of eDhvani invites research papers discussing various aspects of the Fiction of the 21^st century available in different languages and cultures of the world. The aspects to be discussed can include but not be confined to the following:

·         Representation of changing society, economy and culture in the 21^st century fiction

·         21^st century fiction and history of the past and contemporary history

·         Representative fiction of certain society and culture in last decade

·         Fiction and Literary History in Bhasha literature

·         Industry, Corporate Life and Fiction

·         Trauma of New Century and New Generation

·         Changing Notions of Sexuality

·         Philosophy of Fiction Writing

·         Characters and Protagonists in the New Century Fiction

·         Emergence of avant-gardism in contemporary writing

·         Quest for an alternative in 21st Diaspora: the Question of identity, multiculturalism, global-village, vishwa-bandhutva 

·         Centering the margins in the fiction of 21^st century

·         The emergence of new modes of writing: Collage Fiction, Graphic or Hypertext Fiction

 

Last Date of Submitting Full Papers: 5^th December, 2013

Intimation Regarding Acceptance/Rejection & Revision: 20th December, 2013

Final Submission after Editing: 30^th December 2013

Date of Publishing: First Week of January, 2014

[WhatsUpUoH] Reminder: the second "Sawaal-Jawaab: Conversations on Science"

Reminder: this event takes place tomorrow, Sunday 17th November.

This is the second event in the discussion series on current issues in
science, organized by the TIFR Centre for Interdisciplinary Sciences
(TCIS) for the general public. The format consists of a short 20 minute
talk by a prominent scientist, after which the audience is invited to
engage in an informal, free-flowing discussion with the speaker. The event
is free and requires no prior background in science, and interested people
of all ages are welcome.

This conversation will feature Professor V. Chandrasekhar, Dean of TCIS
Hyderabad, and a leader in creating molecules with metal atoms encased in
intricate organic scaffolds, speaking on:

"Lord of the Rings: The Rise of Carbon".

[WhatsUpUoH] Open discussion on sexual harassment

Hello all,

As the culminating event of the "Ask me about my beard" campaign against sexual harassment, we'll be having an open discussion about sexual harassment. Prof. Suneetha Rani (Director, Centre for Women Studies) will be joining us.

We hope the discussion to be around sexual harassment, our experiences on campus, and our experiences over the last two weeks wearing the "Ask me" pin. We also hope to be discussing what is sexual harassment, what are our lived experiences of it, the several facets to it etc. It's an open discussion, so if you have something to discuss, we would love it if you could add on.

Do join us. Even if you haven't participated in the campaign, do join us for the discussion. It's at the School of Humanities Open Air Auditorium (behind the School of Humanities - enter through the gate beside the school) at 4.00pm on Friday (8th November).
